Over the two years that Random CafĂ© has been up and running we have saved over 30 tonnes of food from going to landfill. Yes, 30 tonnes!! That has saved over 57,000 kilos of CO2 entering the environment. Every kilo of food we save and redistribute helps reduce CO2 building up. We are in a time of a climate change emergency and Random CafĂ© is saving as much food as it can redistribute each week. They money donated goes towards the running of our pop up cafĂ©, running our fully electric van to collect the food, hiring the venues to put on events and pop up cafes and itâs not enough. We need to save more food and by doing that we are helping save the planet đ
âWhen we waste food, we also waste all the energy and water it takes to grow, harvest, transport, and package it. And if food goes to the landfill and rots, it produces methaneâa greenhouse gas even more potent than carbon dioxide. About 11% of all the greenhouse gas emissions that come from the food system could be reduced if we stop wasting food. In the US alone, the production of lost or wasted food generates the equivalent of 37 million carsâ worth of greenhouse gas emissions.â Worldwildlife.org
By preventing food waste we are using the most effective way to shrink its impact on the planet. If we avoid producing food that we don’t eat, we can save the land, water, and energy that would have been used to make it.
At Random CafĂ© we are committed to doing as much as we can to to reduce the impact we are having on the planet đ We cannot do this on our own. Become a Friend of Random CafĂ© click here…
